John Edward's legacy

If you thought  Democrat Presidential Candidate's greatest contribution to your safety and well being was merely the scars of unnecessary Ceseraens (C-sections) that so many, many women bear now days think again.  The data is out on the rise in maternal deaths attributed to unnecessary C-sections.  It seems that while having C-sections may keep lawsuits to a minimum, they raise the risks associated with all invasive surgeries.  I'm old enough to remember when Nurse Practitioner Midwives complained that episiotomies were occuring too frequently (some of you ladies may remember "stick and burn" when you delivered a child).  That little scar wasn't enough and it's enough to investigate whether or not Edwards has investments in one piece bathing suits.

The time has come to implement Tort reform so that Doctors can begin looking out for the best interest of their patients instead of practicing "defensive" medicine due to the ever impending threat of frivolous lawsuits with layperson class envious jurors awarding exhorbitant and health care crippling monetary funds.

How stupid is it to have a justice system that has higher penalties for unintentional harm (real or imagined) than it does for intentional harm?  Imagine that if a doctor prescribed you an antibiotic that you may have some remote and unforseeable genetic reaction to that causes unilateral deafness and the penalty, for not actually having a crystal ball, is sued and maligned so severely that it ruins his or her family's life for generations.  It would have actually been a far superior outcome for this former health care provider to merely wait in a darkened alley until by chance he or she could surprise you with an ice pick to the tympanic membrane (ear drum).  At least they would have had a chance for dimished capacity plea that would not commander the entire family fortune and college education and future of their children.

Trial lawyers have decided to change their reputation by doing what many have done to accept responsibilty....assume an alias.

The next time you're waiting months for an Doctor's Appointment, hours in the waiting room and examination room before you get a 5 minute consult that leads to more consults before anyone reaches a partial decision, think about all the potential health care providers who have decided that all the science prerequisites, high tuition costs and long hours are not worth the risk of losing everything you've worked for, for over a decade.
